Louis Sorkin BUg Off Pest Control Center New York Pest ExpoLou has been a featured speaker at the New York Pest Expo for the last 7 years. He ties Dr. Bill Robinson for the most presentations offered at the Expo. Lou, a Board Certified Entomologist, began his career at the American Museum of Natural History in 1978. He has been the treasurer for the New York Entomological Society for more than 25 years and is the founder of Entsult Associates, an entomology consulting firm.

Dr. Bill RobinsonIt was great to have Dr. Bill Robinson present again at the New York Pest Expo. Pest harborages were the main focus of his talk. He shared with us how proper pest identification leads to locating the precise harborage site which in turn leads to effective control with a minimum use of chemicals.

Simply put, once a harborage site is located we can treat and kill the pest. A harborage is not just a “hiding place;” it’s a protective fortress where the pest can gain access to food and water. Harborage provides shelter and often offers an ideal location for breeding.

Joe Barile is the Technical Service Lead for Bayer Environmental Science’s Professional Products Division. His responsibilities include providing technical and training support to the internal BES staff and externally to Pest Management Professionals and public vector control agencies in the United States and Canada.  Mr. Barile holds a degree in Entomology from the University of Massachusetts. He has been involved in urban and public health pest management since 1979 holding positions with major IPM product manufacturers, in public mosquito control, as a university extension entomologist, as a pest control technician and as the technical director of a multi-branch pest control firm. Mr. Barile is a member of the Entomological Society of America, is a Board Certified Entomologist, and a member of the American Mosquito Control Association. We are pleased to have Joe present once again at the New York Pest Expo.

Dr. Corrigan is the author of Rodent Pest Management: A Practical Guide for Pest Management Professionals; the Mallis Handbook of Pest Control on rodents; and co-author of The Scientific Guide to Pest Control Operations. In 2008, Bobby was inducted into the Pest Management Hall of Fame. This is Bobby’s third appearance at the Expo.

Dr. Bill Robinson speaking PE 1We had yet another great presentation from Dr. Bill Robinson at this year’s New York Pest Expo.  His presentation focused on fly biology and habits.

Dr. Robinson reminded us of the importance of fly management in both residential and commercial accounts. Flies carry microorganisms that cause disease and can become a public health problem. Control often requires the expertise of a pest control operator.
