Dan GordonDan was the special business speaker at the Expo. He encouraged us to be aware of our businesses’ Key Performance Indicators (KPI), critical for a company’s sustainability and growth. These are the numbers to track if we want to improve efficiencies.

Dan’s motto is “Work on your business. Not in your business.” As a business owner, you need to work on processes and procedures. Just because you’re a good Pest Management Professional (PMP) doesn’t mean you’re a good businessman. Work on improving your business acumen along with your technical skills.

What the urban Pest Management Professional needs to know about practical entomology: arthropod characteristics; insect anatomy, physiology, life cycles, environmental niche; taxonomy and representative orders. Learn from a great entomologist and educator.

Joe Barile is the Technical Service Lead for Bayer Environmental Science’s Professional Products Division. His responsibilities include providing technical and training support to the internal BES staff and externally to Pest Management Professionals and public vector control agencies in the United States and Canada.  Mr. Barile holds a degree in Entomology from the University of Massachusetts. He has been involved in urban and public health pest management since 1979 holding positions with major IPM product manufacturers, in public mosquito control, as a university extension entomologist, as a pest control technician and as the technical director of a multi-branch pest control firm. Mr. Barile is a member of the Entomological Society of America, is a Board Certified Entomologist, and a member of the American Mosquito Control Association. We are pleased to have Joe present once again at the New York Pest Expo.

He has published over 150 technical publications in pest control and is a regular contributor and columnist for Pest Control Technology and Pest Management Professional. Dr. Corrigan is the author of Rodent Pest Management: A Practical Guide for Pest Management Professionals; the Mallis Handbook of Pest Control on rodents; and co-author of The Scientific Guide to Pest Control Operations. In 2008, Bobby was inducted into the Pest Management Hall of Fame. This is Bobby’s third appearance at the Expo.

What is the real cost of doing business? You need to understand this in order to price yourself appropriately and not sell yourself cheap. You are providing a needed service and if communicated properly to your customer that way you will be able to command your price.

You asked, we listened and are delivering!

Bug Off Pest Control Center is proud to provide a variety of training and informational seminars to the pest control industry throughout the year. This year is no exception. We kicked off 2011 with a great business leadership workshop “Building Wealth in the Pest Control business” presented by Dan Gordon, PCO Bookkeepers.  We had a great turnout and lots of great feedback.
