It All Starts Here – Label Comprehension and Compliance
The label is the foundation of professionalism. We will examine structural pest management developments and trends, our obligations as applicators as well as the impact of non-compliance. We’ll also take a look at expected changes under the Label Standardization Initiative.
Joe Barile is the Technical Service Lead for Bayer’s Environmental Science Division’s Pest Management and Public Health Business Group. His responsibilities include providing technical and training support to the Bayer staff as well as to PMPs, public vector control agencies and food safety specialists in the US and Canada. Mr. Barile holds a degree in Entomology from the University of Massachusetts. He has been involved pest management since 1979 holding positions with major manufacturers, as a university extension entomologist, as a pest control technician and as the technical director of a multi-branch pest control firm. Mr. Barile is a member of the Entomological Society of America, is a Board Certified Entomologist, and a member of the American Mosquito Control Association. He is also the Commission Chairman for the Bristol County (MA) Mosquito Control Project. This is Joe’s fourth presentation at the New York Pest Expo. Shoo Fly! – Fly Management Solutions Ms. Kenmuir explains how location attracts various fly species. She offers inspection tips and strategies and reviews the biology and behavior of the major indoor and outdoor fly species as well as the management tools available for their control.
Sylvia Kenmuir has been the West Coast Technical Support Specialist for BASF for the last two years. Prior to joining BASF, Ms. Kenmuir was involved in distribution as National Technical Director for 30 years. Sylvia is a Board Certified Entomologist who received her B.S. in Biology from California State Polytechnic and her MSc. In Entomology from the University of Nebraska, Lincoln. She is the Chair of the West Coast Rodent Academy, Chair of PWIPM & Rodenticide Taskforce and Past Director of the Entomological Society of America Certification Board. The Art of Exclusion Jeff will guide us through the most important, yet neglected, aspect of long-term pest management. Exclusion reduces the need for pesticides and devices but it also requires expertise and skill. Learn how to identify access points and what the tell-tale signs of intrusion and harborage are. The “Coach” will also offer a tour of essential exclusion tools.
Jeff McGovern is a nationally known consultant with over 48 years of experience in the pest management field. He is known as the “Pest Coach” for his vast knowledge of pests, products and procedures. His “12 Key Factors” program is in use by pest management firms worldwide. Jeff is a featured speaker at the major pest management conferences: Purdue, Maryland Interstate, The New York Pest Expo. He teaches recertification classes for pest management firms and associations across the country. His articles appear regularly in Pest Management Professional (PMP) and Pest Control Technology (PCT) magazines and he was published in The Journal of Economic Entomology in 2000. He has appeared in many training videos and has served as a voice-over talent as well. This is Jeff’s fourth appearance at the New York Pest Expo.

John Murphy is the CO2 Development and Implementation Manager for Liphatech. He has 40 years of pest control experience; 15 of which were spent as an owner/operator of commercial service companies, as well as a pesticide distribution firm in New York City. He has been with Liphatech for over 20 years and during that time he has worked throughout North America perfecting the art of eradicating rodents. He has assisted municipalities, health departments, government facilities, food establishments, zoos and many other sensitive accounts with customizing rodent abatement programs. This is John’s fourth appearance at the New York Pest Expo. We are grateful to our friends at Liphatech for sponsoring his presentation.
Dr. William H. Robinson, PhD. The Fountainhead Group
Application Technologies – Where We Are, Where We’re Going With his review of traditional application equipment and their limitations, Dr. Bill calls for a reboot on the features the next generation of delivery systems should contain. He also explodes the myths regarding power, volume, pressure and layering.
Dr. Robinson conducted research in structural pest control and application technology at Virginia Tech for 30 years. He was Technical Director for B&G Equipment Company for 20 years where he helped develop tools for insecticide application in professional pest control. He is now Technical Product Director at the Fountainhead Group, a U.S.-owned company that manufactures insecticide application equipment. He has written a text book and a reference book on urban entomology, and 5 training manuals for service technicians (two written in Chinese). In it For the Long Run – Long-Lived Organisms
Lou will delve into the factors that favor longevity in nature. We’ll learn about some amazing long-lived arthropods. Lou will also go over the causes and remedies for long-lived and persistent infestations.
Lou Sorkin graduated with an M.S. in Entomology from the University of Connecticut in 1978. He is a Board Certified Entomologist in Urban and Industrial Entomology, specializing in forensic studies. For 35 years he worked in the Department of Entomology at the American Museum of Natural History in New York City. In 2000, Lou founded his entomology consulting business, Entsult Associates, Inc. Lou is a consultant for the medical profession, law enforcement, the hospitality and real estate industries, museums as well as pest management firms. He has contributed to film industry scripts where arthropods are an integral part of the storyline. He has co-authored various papers and articles that deal with spiders, flies, mites and ticks, and has a special interest in insects as food, a discipline called entomophagy. Lou has presented at the New York Pest Expo more than any other speaker.
